An architectural designer in Tasmania is a professional who specialises in the design and planning of buildings and structures. While we perform many of the same functions as architects, we are not required to be registered or licensed by a state-based architecture board. Instead we are registered as building designers with the state. This distinction allows us to offer a range of services, particularly suited to residential and smaller-scale commercial and other type building projects.
During my architecture studies, structural design and building materials was one of my areas of specialisation. Later during my first fifteen years of practice I oversaw building sites for residential, commercial, interior, and industrial projects. This along with my specialisation as architectural designer helps with my wholistic approach to design.
As a registered Building Designer in Tasmania I can work as an architectural designer and prepare documentation of Building Classes 1&10, and Classes 2-9 up to 3 storeys with a maximum floor area of 2000m2, and refurbishments of any storey. These building types include: house, boarding house, dwelling used for short-term accommodation, multi-residential dwellings, hotels and accommodations, commercial like shopping center, shop and office, storage, shed, warehouse, workshop, factory, healthcare facility, church, school, child-care center, aged-care facility, swimming pool.
During my studies of Sustainable built environment at UNSW I learnt to incorporate sustainable design in my architectural designer practice. It involves creating all season enjoyable buildings that are healthy, environmentally responsible, resource-efficient, and harmonious with their surroundings.
